The University of Florida Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence Systems (MSAIS) is a 30-credit, campus-based graduate program in Gainesville. The degree combines machine learning, AI systems, computer vision, security, deep learning, ethics, advanced electives, and a final capstone. UF describes a standard four-semester plan of study, making this a strong fit for students who want a focused technical AI degree rather than a broad computer science program.

Curriculum
UF requires 30 credits: 18 credits of core courses, 9 credits of electives, and a 3-credit capstone. The standard plan starts with machine learning, AI systems, and a sensing or computer vision course, then moves into security, deep learning, and AI ethics.
Required and selectable core courses include Machine Learning for AI Systems, Artificial Intelligent Systems, Computer Vision or related sensing courses, Trustworthy Machine Learning or another approved security course, Applied Deep Learning, and AI Ethics for Tech Leaders.
Students also complete three electives. UF groups many options into Advanced Machine Learning and Data Driven Modeling plus Autonomy, Robotics, and Human-Centered Computing. Options include Advanced Machine Learning, Neural Networks and Deep Learning, Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems, Machine Learning for Time Series, and robotics or human-centered computing courses.
Credits and Program Length
The MSAIS requires 30 graduate credits. UF publishes a standard four-semester plan, which works out to about two academic years because the program currently does not schedule summer classes. Part-time study is allowed, so students who take a lighter course load may need longer.
Tuition and Cost
For the 2026-27 academic year, UF lists a total graduate rate of $532.52 per credit for Florida residents and $1,449.28 per credit for nonresidents. Multiplying those rates by the 30-credit degree produces an estimated program tuition and required per-credit fee cost of about $15,976 for Florida residents and $43,478 for nonresidents.
These are estimates based on UF’s published per-credit graduate rates, not a university-published total price for the MSAIS. They do not include books, housing, transportation, personal expenses, or other costs that may vary by student.
Admissions
UF lists a 3.0 undergraduate GPA as the minimum for admission consideration. Applicants submit a CV, statement of purpose, three recommendation letters, and English proficiency scores when applicable. The GRE is not required. The program says most students come from engineering or other STEM backgrounds, although a specific engineering degree is not an absolute requirement.
UF currently admits students for the fall term only. For Fall 2027, the published deadline is January 31, 2027 for international applicants and April 1, 2027 for domestic applicants. Applications are reviewed in rolling batches.
Machine Learning and AI Focus
The AI and machine learning connection is direct and substantial. The degree includes dedicated coursework in machine learning, deep learning, trustworthy machine learning, AI systems, computer vision, pattern recognition, neural networks, time-series ML, robotics, and AI ethics. Students also gain access to UF’s HiPerGator supercomputer resources and complete hands-on software work.
Campus Format
UF classifies the MSAIS as an on-campus program. It is not currently offered as an online master’s degree. The program does allow part-time enrollment, but students should plan around fall and spring course scheduling because summer courses are not currently offered.
Capstone Project
The degree ends with a 3-credit capstone. Students can complete the Project in AI Systems non-thesis course or use UF’s Integrated Product and Process Design sequence when the required sequence fits their plan. The capstone is intended to bring together design, development, and deployment of an AI system.
Who Is This Program Best For?
UF is a good match for students who want a technical, campus-based master’s focused specifically on AI systems. It is especially relevant for applicants with strong computing, engineering, mathematics, or analytical preparation who want structured work in machine learning and deep learning plus exposure to computer vision, security, robotics, ethics, and applied system development.
Bottom Line
The University of Florida MSAIS clearly qualifies for inclusion on MastersInMachineLearning.org. It offers a dedicated 30-credit AI curriculum with multiple machine learning courses, a hands-on capstone, a standard four-semester path, and a relatively low estimated resident cost for a public flagship university. The main limitation is delivery: students must currently study on campus in Gainesville.
