New Jersey Institute of Technology offers a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence through the Department of Data Science in the Ying Wu College of Computing. Curriculum
The 2026–2027 NJIT graduate catalog lists 30 credits for the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence. Students complete 10 courses: four core courses and six electives. A thesis option is also available for students who want a research-focused path.
Artificial Intelligence Core
Three courses are required for all students:

- DS 675 Machine Learning
Students then choose one additional core course from options that include Reinforcement Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Graph Neural Networks, and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.
AI and Machine Learning Electives
The elective structure is broad but still strongly technical. Current Data Science electives include Deep Learning for Computer Vision, Artificial Intelligence for Robotics, Advanced Federated Machine Learning, Theoretical Foundation of Machine Learning, Advanced Machine Learning, and Deep Unsupervised Learning.
Students can also use approved electives in computer science, statistics, engineering, science, robotics, and business. Examples include Data Mining, Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition and Applications, Neural Engineering, and Machine Learning for Chemical and Materials Engineers.

Admissions
NJIT states that applicants should have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA and prior coursework in the technical foundations needed for graduate AI study. Expected preparation includes calculus, programming, data structures and algorithms, probability and statistics, and linear algebra.
Applicants submit transcripts and at least one letter of recommendation. The GRE is not required. International applicants may also need TOEFL, IELTS, or Duolingo scores unless they qualify for a waiver.
Applicants with a technical or scientific bachelor’s degree who do not meet every prerequisite may be considered case by case. NJIT also provides a pathway through its graduate Certificate in Artificial Intelligence; students who complete that certificate with a 3.0 GPA or higher are guaranteed admission to the M.S. program.

NJIT allows M.S. in Artificial Intelligence students to select courses that also align with graduate certificates in Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Essentials, Data Mining, and Data Visualization.
